Book of Saints – Alberic

ALBERIC (Blessed) Abbot (January 26) (12th century) Abbot of Citeaux and one of the founders of the Cistercian Order of Monks under the Rule of Saint Benedict, the characteristic feature of which order was insistence on the observance to the letter of that ancient Western Rule. Saint Alban placed his reform under the special patronage of Our Blessed Lady, and in her honour gave his monks the white robe they still wear. He died A.D. 1109.
