Book of Saints – Afra – 24 May


AFRA (Saint) Martyr (May 24) (2nd century) A convert to Christianity, made by the Martyrs Saints Faustinus and Jovita, and baptised by the Bishop Saint Apollonius. She was the wife of a nobleman of the city of Brescia in Lombardy, where in the end she suffered martyrdom about A.D.133. It was in her church at Brescia that Saint Angela Merici founded the Ursuline Order and was herself buried.
