Book of Saints – Aelred


AELRED (St.) Abbot. (March 2) (12th cent.) A holy man of Anglo-Saxon origin, who, abandoning a high post at the Court of David I., King of Scots, retired to the Cistercian Abbey of Bievaulx in Yorkshire, of which monastery he was in the end to become Abbot His repute as a Saint, great during his life, increased after his holy death, Jan. 12, 1166.
