Blessed Valentín Díez Serna



One of ten children born to Antonio and Maria Diez-Serna, pious people who lived in a village so small that it had no school or priest. Baptised at the age of three days, he made his First Communion in 1923 and Confirmed on 7 October 1924. Valentin early felt a call to religious life, and he joined the Franciscans on 29 September 1926. He studied in seminary in Pastrana, Spain from 1931 to 1934 where he developed a devotion to Our Lady of Carmel. Poet. In the winter of 1934 he began suffering from migraines. Martyred in the Spanish Civil War.
