Profile
Born to a poor peasant family, Michel joined the Prado congregation in 1971 and worked as a miller in Lyon and Marseilles in France. He became a Trappist monk at the Bellefontaine Abbey in 1981, and moved to Algeria in 1985, serving at the cook and housekeeper for the Atlas Abbey of Tibhirine near Médéa. He was one of seven monks kidnapped over the night of 26–27 March 1996 during the Algerian Civil War. They were held captive for two months, then murdered for being Christian. Martyr.
