Jesuit missionary in India who entered the Order on 1 November 1571, assigned first to colleges in Cochin and Goa. In 1577 he was assigned to the Salsette mission where he worked to build churches and chapels. While they were raising a cross, he and some brother Jesuits were attacked by an antiChristian mob; Francis was struck in the neck with a saber and stabbed in the side with a spear; left for dead, he dragged himself into a nearby stand of trees to hide; he was found, dragged into front of an idol, and ordered to worship it; he refused. One of the Martyrs of Cuncolim.
