Priest. Bishop of Ardagh, Ireland on 11 September 1581. Archbishop of Armagh, Ireland on 1 July 1587. He worked to encourage his flock in their faith and devotions, and to assure them of support from the Vatican and other Catholic countries during a period of repression by English Protestants.

In late 1593, during a battle between Catholic and Protestant forces at a place called Sciath na bfeart, Archbishop Edmund was wounded by one Protestant soldier while hearing the Confession of another one who wished to be reconciled to the Church. He never completely recovered, and died from complications of those injuries.
