altar candlesticks

Six candlesticks with candles, three on each side of the crucifix, kept on the main altar. Two, one at each side of the altar, must be used during low Mass. Extra candlesticks and candelabra are used for ornamentation. Altar-candlesticks may be of any kind of metal, or gilded or silvered wood. Their use became general only in the 16th century.
