• Aramaic – father


Title given to bishops in the Syriac, Coptic, and Ethiopic Churches. With translation subjoined, it is used by Mark and Paul in the New Testament as a form of address to God. It is used as a title of honor for Hebrew scholars and forms part of many Hebrew names.
