Son of a miller. Seminarian in Avila, Spain. Ordained on 15 March 1893. Studied law at the University of Valladolid. Canon of the cathedral of Leon, Spain. Taught in the seminary in Madrid, Spain. Bishop of Lugo, Spain on 3 September 1909. Bishop of Jaén, Spain from 18 December 1919 until his death. Arrested for his faith on 2 August 1936. Martyred in the Spanish Civil War.
