The youngest and only male child in his family, Antonio was 12 years old his mother died. At age 14, against his father‘s wishes, the boy enrolled in seminary. Ordained a priest on 20 March 1881. Parish priest in a number of cities where he founded a series of schools. He entered the Jesuits on 14 August 1893, making his vows on 18 September 1895. Founded the Sisters of the Divine Shepherd in Oaxaca, Mexico on 14 January 1900 with a Rule based on that of the Jesuits. Supported the work of the Apostolate of Prayer and Daughters of Mary and other services that worked with and encouraged the vocations of young people. As the cancer that killed him spread, he continued his ministry as a priest, and increased his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
