Seminarian in Stretto section of Messina, Italy. Ordained in the archdiocese of Messina on 21 December 1895. Studied theology in Rome, Italy. Secretary to the bishop of Oppido Mamertina, Italy, and spiritual leader of the diocesan seminary. Worked with Saint Hannibal Maria di Francia at the cathedral of Messina. Worked to rebuild the lives, schools and spirituality of the people of Messina following the destructive earthquake of 28 December 1908. Founded the Congregation of the Handmaids of Reparation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, opening their first house on 2 February 1918.
