Venerable Anna Kaworek

Venerable Anna KaworekProfile

Third of eight children born to Franciszek Kaworek and Franciszka of Langer. After graduating school, Anna worked on the family farm, but was drawn to religious life, and joined the Salesians on 25 February 1894. In 1897 she founded a school for orphaned girls, but when the Salesians said that the place did not meet their criteria she and six co-sisters co-founded the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Michael Archangel on 5 March 1898, making their perpetual vows on 1 November 1898; the Sisters received the blessing of Pope Leo XIII on 16 November 1898 and 24 April 1899. Anna was chosen the superior of the Congregation on 2 November 1898, and served as its leader for her remaining 38 years.
