The Holiness of the Church in the Nineteenth Century – Blessed John Lantrua

Saint Giovanni of TrioraArticle

The Blessed John Lantrua came from Triora in Liguria, and at seventeen was received into the Franciscan Order at Rome. When he was thirty-nine his oft-repeated prayer was granted, and he was sent to China to preach the Gospel. For fifteen years, amidst unheard-of sufferings and hardships, he scattered the seed of the divine word. And the noblest of rewards was bestowed on him. He was taken prisoner and after many tortures courageously endured, he was strangled at Shian-Sa on 7 February 1816.
