Born to the Italian nobility. Priest. Canon of the catehdral of Bologna, Italy. Augustinian canon c.1104. Chosen bishop of Pavia, Italy c.1139, but adamantly refused the appointment, citing his inadequacy to the task. Elevated to cardinalbishop of Palestrina in 1144 by Pope Lucius II.
