(Latin, stola, long garment), liturgical vestment composed of a strip of material about three inches wide and eighty long, sometimes widening at ends spade-shape; often made of silk and embroidered; worn around the neck by priests and bishops, at the left shoulder like a sash by deacons, for the celebration of Mass, administration of sacraments, and ceremonies of Blessed Eucharist.
