- Potamiaena of Alexandria
Daughter of Saint Marcella of Alexandria. Young, beautiful, pious, Christian, virgin, girl. Tortured extensively for her faith, burned with boiling pitch, and threatened with being handed over to gladiators to be raped during the persecutions of Severus. Her calm and faith during her martyrdom led to the conversion of her guard, Saint Basilides of Alexandria. She appeared in visions to Basilides each night for the three nights after her martyrdom, claiming to be praying for him and his conversion.
