Son of Cyriacus, he was known as a learned, educated and energetic man. As a deacon, he represented the pope at the Sixth Ecumenical Council, returning to Rome in July, 682. Chosen 82nd pope. Brought the dioceses of Sardinia into union with Rome. Noted for his generosity to the clergy and the poor.
