(died 326) Confessor, Doctor of the Church, Patriarch of Alexandria. His appointment excluded Arius from that post. Although a supporter of Athanasius, he treated Arius with consideration; but he is said to have drawn up the Acts of the Council of Nicrea in which Arius was condemned. Feast, 17 April.
