- Friday after Ash Wednesday
Instituted in Paris, France in 1239, when Saint Louis brought back a relic of the Crown, later deposited in the Royal Chapel. The feast was kept on 11 August until it was adopted as a double-major at Rome in 1831, and the present day selected. It is not a universal feast, the Mass and Office being appendices of the Missal.
