- Apostle of Temperance
Joined the Capuchin Order in 1808. Ordained in 1814. He did parochial work in Kilkenny, Ireland for one year, and in Cork, Ireland for 24 years. Appointed Capuchin provincial for Ireland in 1828. In 1838, in order to combat the widespread alcohol abuse in Ireland, he inaugurated a widespread temperance movement. It is estimated that in the various countries in which he preached he gave the total abstinence pledge to 7,000,000.
