(Saint) Bishop (January 24) (3rd century) The first Bishop of Bologna (Italy) of whom we have any record. He is said to have been consecrated by Pope Saint Dionysius (A.D. 259–268) and to have passed away before the beginning of the great persecution of Christians under Diocletian towards the close of the century. But many writers, following Baronius, insist that Bologna, by reason of its importance as a city, must have had Bishops of its own at a much earlier date than that thus assigned to Zamas.
