(Sixtus) (Saint) Pope, Martyr (August 6) (3rd century) The successor of Pope Saint Stephen. He was put to death with his deacons, Felicissimus and Agapetus (A.D. 258), leaving a third deacon, Saint Laurence, to lay down his life for Christ three days later. Other Christians, too, suffered with Saint Xystus, among them a Saint Vincent.
