(Sixtus) I (Saint) Pope, Martyr (April 6) (2nd century) A Roman who ruled the Church in the times of the Emperors Hadrian and Antoninus Pius. A.D. 142 is given as the date of his martyrdom; but modern research has led to the anticipating of this date by many to A.D. 127.
