(Saint) Martyr (August 26) (10th century) A Spanish Saint who, after living many years a hermit‘s life in the neighbourhood of Burgos, at the command of an Angel, betook himself to the camp of the Moors, then besieging his native town of Cereza, and sought to preach Christianity to them. He made some converts, but was in the end seized and crucified (A.D. 950). The Moors, however, abandoned their siege.
