(Saints) Martyrs (September 1) (3rd century) The children of Saints Boniface and Thecla. The latter were African Christians who gave their lives for Christ in the persecution under Maximian Herculeus, and are venerated as Martyrs on August 30. Their twelve sons appear to have been, after their arrest, taken to Italy to be tried and condemned as Christians. The tradition is that none of them were spared, but no reliable account of their martyrdom has come down to us. The Relics of some of these Martyrs are enshrined at Benevento.
