(Saints) (December 27) (9th century) Two brothers who became monks together in the monastery of Saint Sabbas in Jerusalem. They fought valiantly for the Catholic Faith in the calamitous times of the Iconoclast Emperors of Constantinople. Again and again they suffered imprisonment and banishment. Theodore died in prison (A.D. 842), but Theophanes survived the persecution and was made Bishop of Nicaea. The exact date of his death is not known.
