(Saint) Hermit. (July 1) (11th century) A Frenchman, son of a Count of Champagne, who when eighteen years old embraced the life of a hermit and persevered therein till his death, thirty years later (A.D. 1066). To escape observation, he dwelt for part of the time in Germany, and for part in the North of Italy. He was canonised in the twelfth century by Pope Alexander III.
