(Tarcisius) (Saint) Martyr (August 15) (3rd century) A Roman acolyte, whose duty it was to carry the Blessed Sacrament to the sick or from church to church, as needed. On one occasion, while doing so, he was set upon by a heathen mob and beaten to death in the public streets. This happened during the Pontificate of Pope Saint Stephen I (A.D. 254–257).
