(Saint) Bishop (October 23) (5th century) Two Saints of this name are honoured on October 23. Saint Severinus, Bishop of Bordeaux, where he succeeded Saint Amandus, was a Greek or Asiatic by birth, and lived in the first half of the fifth century. Saint Severinus, Bishop of Cologne, was born at Bordeaux and died there, whence a certain confusion in the accounts given of the two Saints, who moreover were contemporaries. Saint Severinus of Cologne was especially noted for the firmness with which he withstood the Arian heretics. He died A.D. 408.
