(Saint) King (August 29) (7th century) A King of the East Saxons in the time of the Heptarchy, a man of God and a wise ruler. Growing old, he resigned his crown to his sons and retired into a monastery to prepare for his end, which came A.D. 697. His shrine in Saint Paul’s, London, was to be seen till the Great Fire of A.D. 1666.
