(Saint) Virgin (February 10) (6th century) The sister of Saint Benedict, the legislator of Western monasticism. She is regarded as the first nun of his Order. Saint Gregory the Great relates of her that by her prayers she miraculously obtained opportune rain from Heaven; and again that at the moment of her holy death (A.D. 543) Saint Benedict in a vision saw her innocent soul, in the semblance of a white dove, wing its flight heavenwards.
