(Saint) Bishop Martyr (October 6) (2nd century) A Bishop of Laodicea (Asia Minor) who was put to death as a Christian in the reign of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The historian Eusebius and others of the ancients mention him. But the tradition that he was a disciple of Saint Paul the Apostle seems quite impossible of belief, as the date of his death must have been about A.D. 175, more than a hundred years later than that of the Apostle.
