(Saint) Hermit. (September 29) (6th century) He was a Greek by birth, but travelled to Palestine and there embraced the monastic life. He lived in various monasteries and hermitages until, it is said, he had long passed his hundredth year, dying some time before A.D. 550. He had great influence in his time, and is praised for having always without hesitation defended the pure Catholic doctrine in the subtle disputes which troubled the Eastern Church.
