(Saints) Martyrs (August 23) (3rd century) Saint Quiriacus is stated to have been Bishop of Ostia at the mouth of the Tiber; Saints Maximus and Archelaus, priest and deacon respectively. They, with a number of Christian soldiers, appear to have suffered about the same time as the better known Saint Hippolytus (August 22). The Roman Martyrology notes the martyrdom of Saint Quiriacus and his fellow sufferers as having taken place during the reign of Alexander Severus (A.D. 222-235), but the moderns tend to place it twenty or more years later.
