(Quentin) (Saint) Martyr (October 31) (3rd century) A Roman of noble family who accompanied Saint Lucian as a missionary to Gaul. Saint Lucian worked from Beauvais, Saint Quentin from Amiens. Rictiovarus, Prefect of Gaul, under Diocletian and Maximian, caused the latter Saint to be seized and beheaded at the place now called Saint-Quentin, after him. His body was thrown into the Somme (A.D. 290), whence the Christians afterwards recovered and reverently interred it.
