(Saint) Abbot (November 22) (6th century) An Abbot in Auvergne, famous for his miracles and for the courage with which he faced the Merovingian King Thierry of Austrasia, who was ravaging the country, and obtained from him the release of those of the inhabitants he was carrying away into slavery. Saint Portianus died about A.D. 540.
