(Saint) (May 1) (1st century) One of the Twelve, a native of Bethsaida, and several times mentioned in the Gospels. After the Ascension, he is believed to have preached Christianity in Asia Minor and to have laid down his life for Christ at Hierapolis in Phrygia (A.D. 80). His Relics are venerated in Rome.
