(Saint) Martyr (September 17) (15th century) A Spaniard of noble birth and a very learned man, who became a Canon Regular of the Order of Saint Augustine. Under Ferdinand and Isabella, he distinguished himself by his zeal in the work of converting Jews and heretics. But some of their leaders plotted and compassed his death. He was murdered at their instigation in the Cathedral of Saragossa (A.D. 1485) while engaged in chanting the Divine Office. He was canonised (A.D. 1867) by Pope Pius IX.
