(Saint) Bishop (February 22) (2nd century) A celebrated Bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia (Asia Minor), perhaps a disciple of Saint John the Evangelist, but certainly a friend of Saint Polycarp of Smyrna. He lived to a great age and wrote much, but of his writings only fragments are extant. On the authority of Eusebius he was at one time believed to have been an upholder of the Millenarian error (that of the thousand years Earthly Kingdom of Christ), but modern research has freed him from that charge.
