(Saint) King, Martyr (August 20) (7th century) A Prince of extraordinary holiness of life in which he had for his master Saint Aidan. He succeeded Saint Oswald on the throne of Deira (a part of Nothumbria). In a war with King Oswy of Bernicia he was traitorously slain (A.D 651) near Richmond in Yorkshire, and has since been honoured as a Martyr. A solemn Translation of his Relics took place A.D. 1065.
