(Humphrey) (Saint) (12 June) Hermit. (4th century) A famous Egyptian Solitary who lived alone for sixty years in the Desert of the Thebais (Upper Egypt). Saint Paphnutius, another celebrated Solitary, has left us a detailed and graphic account of a visit he paid to Saint Humphrey. He relates too how he assisted at the Saint‘s holy death and reverently interred his remains. This event must have happened late in the fourth or early in the fifth century.
