(Saint) Widow (August 5) (4th century) The mother of Saint Gregory of Nazianzen, a matron of exemplary life, who obtained the conversion of her husband by her prayers. She was the model of a Christian mother, and a helper to all in poverty and distress. The touching Panegyric or Funeral Discourse pronounced over her remains by her son Saint Gregory does equal credit to the heads and hearts of both. Saint Nonna lived to a great age, dying at Nazianzum (Asia Minor) about A.D. 375.
