(Saint) Abbot (September 26) (10th century) A Greek of Southern Italy, and the founder of the well-known Greek monastery of Grotta Ferrata near Rome. In his youth he had committed a sin he deemed so heinous as to call for a lifelong penance. First as a a hermit and afterwards as the head of a Religious community, he faithfully carried this out. He died at the age of ninety-five, universally venerated, about A.D. 1000.
