(Saints) Martyrs (October 11) (3rd century) Saint Nicasius, a Bishop, is said to have been one of the first missionaries sent from Rome to the Pagans of the North of France, where he, with the others enumerated above, was put to death as a Christian. As in many other cases, there is a great doubt as to whether the old tradition that these and other holy missionaries came into Gaul in the Apostolic Age or centuries later can be maintained. The Bollandists prefer A.D. 286 as the date of the martyrdom of Saint Nicasius.
