(Saint) Bishop (December 27) (3rd century) The Patriarch of Alexandria who succeeded Saint Dionysius in that See (A.D. 282 about). It would seem too that in the lifetime of his predecessor, at the times when Saint Dionysius found it necessary to leave Alexandria because of the fierce persecution of which he in particular was the object, Saint Maximus temporarily filled his place. The latter seems to have also been a Prelate in high repute for piety and learning.
