Book of Saints – Mawes

(Mauditus, Maudez) (Saint) (May 17) (6th century) A Cornish Saint who lived as a hermit near Falmouth. He flourished in the sixth century, and is said to have been of Irish descent. He is known in Brittany as Saint Maudez. There has been an attempt to identify Saint Mawes with the famous Saint Malo (Machutus), but the arguments brought forward in favour of this theory are far from convincing.
