Book of Saints – Matthias – 21 February

Article

(Saint) Apostle. (February 21) (1st century) Saint Matthias was one of the first disciples of Christ, and had been with Him from the time of His Baptism to His last days in Jerusalem (Acts 1:21,22). He was chosen by lot by the Eleven to take the place of the traitor Judas. What further information tradition supplies as to his after-life and ministry is not always consistent. Some writers suppose him to have preached the Gospel in Judaea and afterwards in Ethiopia, and to have met his end by crucifixion. Others assert that he was stoned to death by the Jews in Jerusalem.
