(Maternian) (Saint) Bishop (January 2) (5th century) The seventeenth Bishop of Milan, to which See he was raised A.D. 423. He took part in the Council of Ephesus, and wrote an able book against the errors of Nestorius. He died A.D. 432, or, according to others, A.D. 435, and was buried in the Church of Saint Stephen at Milan.
