Book of Saints – Martin of Treves

(Saint) Bishop, Martyr (July 19) (3rd century) The Roman Martyrology styles this holy Bishop a Martyr, and there has always been a tradition that when the Emperor Septimus Severus (A.D. 193-211) was laying waste the churches and putting Christians to death, among the many Bishops who laid down their lives for the Faith was a Martin, Bishop of Treves. We have, however, no certain record of his martyrdom. The records at Treves give him as the tenth Bishop of that See, and state that he was appointed to it at a time of great danger, and that he passed away about A.D. 210.
